Health Care
Affordable health care is one of our most important issues facing Utah families. Issues of concern to people are health care costs, cost of prescription drugs, health insurance for children, care for the elderly uninsured residents. With this in mind the legislature has acted proactively to make health care affordable and streamline its procedures.

Accomplishments of the 56 and 57 Utah State Legislatures
• Opened enrollment in the Children’s Health Insurance Program year-round
• Provided tax credits for certain health insurance premiums
• Implemented Preferred Drug List for the Medicaid program (savings of $500,000 General Fund since October, 2007)
• Provided funding to raise the percentage of doctor offices using electronic medical records to 65% (goal of 75% by end of FY 2009)
• Consolidated Health's Medicaid eligibility workers and the Department of Workforce Services' eligibility workers to create a one-stop shop for state assistance
• Started Utah's Premium Partnership for Health Insurance on November 1, 2006, as of 8/13/08 have 213 adults & 327 children enrolled
• Appropriated funds to reduce the waiting list for people with disabilities by 6%.
• Established a bleeding disorder assistance grant program which helped 140 individuals through FY 2008
